Patrick Wong shares with us a custom piece he had done for the "Dream in Plastic Custom Toy Show" (exhibiting at 177 Main Street, Beacon, New York), with this pudgy gang member being a custom 7" Dude figure, wielding a hockey stick entitled "Alastair of the Dominators"! This piece is available through the Dream in Plastic Custom Toy Show opening June 8, 2013 for US$250.
"The character Alastair hails from a street gang, the Dominators and they defend their turf with their signature style: orange monkey jackets, brown hats, and sneakers. The vinyl figure is partly inspired by Sol Yurick's 1965 novel "The Warriors" about New York City street gangs, retold from the original greek text "Anabasis" from the 4th century."
Along with the custom paint, the designer toy has sculpted additions and modified elements. "I began cutting the eyes out of my recent pieces to emphasize the emptiness inside the rotocast figures, maybe the emptiness of the stories that are so pervasive in our culture," said Patrick Wong. "I paint the inside black and when you're in front one of them, you lean in when you notice that the interior space is visible - it's like a black hole." ~added Patrick.
