Yet another reason why Bandung-based artisan Castella Natalia is the awesomeness - with these hand-painted on plush creations featuring The Yellow Dino's characters! Folks who own TYD's myriad of cut-out stickers would recognize this (as well as the lucky few who scored them from sticker onsets in my "I LIKE TOYS" fanzine). "Art Project" @ Star Wars Day Jakarta #SWDJKT
Posted on 04:39 by omprakash
One aspect of Star Wars Day Jakarta, for me personally, was the SWDJKT: "Art Project" exhibition. Curated and organized by Yudi Andhika, on show were a myriad of artwork depicting scenes and characters from the Star Wars lore, including ANTZ, Clogtwo and Inkten representing Singapore!
Shown up top is the poster for the Art Project - as done by housethehouse studio - but was unable to make the first day launch of the 2-day weekend show, unfortunately amongst a few other artists/designers' too.
Thus far I had also featured works from The Yellow Dino (with Marine Ramdhani), Castella Natalia, Wiyoga Muhardanto and David The Killer (all 3-dimensional pieces, actually), and even the "Live" Graffiti session featuring The Yellow Dino, Bedlam and Mr KumKum … and today we take a look at all other canvas artwork! Mind you, my photographs does the actual artwork no justice, baring the flares, whiteouts from spotlights … forgive me?

What I truly enjoy about this exhibition, was the interpretation of fictional characters from as far back as nearly four decades ago, by artists who might not have actually sat in the cinema seats when the film(s) premiered (which isn't and should't be the issue at all, as Yudi explained in the video below), and that amongst all the celebration of Star Wars - which consisted of merchandize and memorabilia, and toys etc - is this refreshing depiction+creation of art, in both 2D and 3D forms. Bravo, everyone!

As well, images seen in the slideshows above (and more!) has been posted in THIS dedicated Facebook album for all to view! Again I offer my apologies, as I do not have all the artists' information, so please feel free to add your name and URL-links to your relevant page = it's all good, folks!
I had an interview with "Art Project" Curator (who insists on being called "Organizer" instead) Yudi Andhika aka The Yellow Dino about the project's genesis (my humble apologies for the lackluster audio recordingm please tune the volume way up top listen!):

Welcome To The Darkside: "Live" Mural Painting seen @ Star Wars Day jakarta (#SWDJKT)
Posted on 00:18 by omprakash
(Above: Finished Mural pic via @theyellowdino)
Part of the festivities for the recent weekend's Star Wars Day Jakarta, was the "live" mural painting (which I constantly use the term now in lieu of "graffiti" heehee) perpetrated by Bedlamorama, The Yellow Dino and Mr KumKum - who tricked out The Fett, a Chibi-Trooper and Darth Maul! The name of the collective piece? "Welcome To The Darkside"!
The mural happened right in front of the entrance of Balai Kartini, with crowds of folks gathered about, sitting on ledges and curbs, silently enjoying the activity in before them … all the while vehicles constant moving past the artists' bums - which made for a somewhat "ironic poetic" scene - when the sky fell dark, as the car headlights were switched on, and illuminated the wall as they drove past, like it perhaps would have been like, when writing "illegally". But when there were no cars, the guys were tagging in darkness, illuminated slightly by the street-lights and light coming from the entrance. And I have (brightened in post) videos to prove it!
Finished on Saturday night, amidst a slight downpour, the panel was then moved to the inside of Balai Kartini, and display on the 2nd floor of the event location. I even managed to see one of the security guards, posing in front of the piece, while asking his kaki to take a quick snap! Tis truly lit a smile on my face :)
Well done, guys!

Mega Dino Fett & Jouwe Fett by The Yellow Dino + Marine Ramdhani (for "Art Project" @ Star Wars Day Jakarta)
Posted on 07:04 by omprakash
Having featured the WIPs of The Yellow Dino's Mega Munny custom, I was eagerly looking forward to the piece at Star Wars Day Jakarta, and I was not disappointed! I might have featured Yudi's works on my blog, but having to see them up close and personal, is another treat altogether!
Holding court as part of the exhibits in the "Art Project" arena for #SWDJKT - MEGA DINO FETT sees the galactic bounty hunter getting the Dino-treatment, complete with battle-worn dinks-n-dents in his helmet and armor .. and that rocket backpack is splendid, as astounding the details were, IMHO.
And while this display piece had been spoken for at the show itself, a few pre-orders for further pieces were apparently happening as well, so do stay tuned to this blog for further news on that front! Ah heck, go bug Yudi on his Twitter @theyellowdino or his www @ www.theyellowdino.com!
And see by Dino Fett's side, was JOUWE FETT! Featuring Marine Ramdhani's Rhino-horned Jouwe character design on a Jango Fett-helmet … and "why" just the helmet alone? Well, remember when Jango got decapitated by Mace Windu in the Battle on Genosa? MUAHAHAHAHAH LOVE THIS!
