Previews for "The Deadbeet Show" @ Toy Art Gallery (June 29)

One of the things I love about Toy Art Gallery, is the seemingly unrelentless cascade of art toy shows it holds! And with the constant posting of their shows on my blog, I really hope to physically pop by one day and witness a show, instead of just posting about it LOL


We have their next show in the spotlight today, with "The Deadbeet Show" opening June 29th, with the base toy of choice being Scott Tolleson's DEADBEET (as sculpted by George Gaspar of October Toys). And while the "official" event press has yet to come, here's a look at a few completed customs and work-in-progress!

The top image is "Julienned" by Carson Catlin (hilarious and apt name, btw), while shown directly below is a work-in-progress from 16 year-old wunderkind PJ Constable, with the worms meant to be suck into the main-Beet:



Directly above sees Chauskoskis adding some height to Deadbeet, while below sees Leecifer's "Old Growth Greater Horned Beet" mind it's own business in the soil next to DrilOne's "Rotten Deadbeet"! Maaaan, it's gonna be a good harvest, come June 29th! LOL

Frank Kozik - A Clockwork Carrot Release & Signing @ Toy Art Gallery (June 8)

Toy Art Gallery will be hosting the release and signing of Frank Kozik’s A CLOCKWORK CARROT in their Hollywood, California gallery space on Saturday, June 8th from 7-8PM.

This signing will see the release of the ultra-limited A Clockwork Carrot “Pure Evil” edition, a shared exclusive between TAG and BlackBook Toy - of which only 10 pieces will be available from each store! Blackbook Toy will be selling this Pure Evil White after this event ends, June 12th from midnight.

"A Clockwork Carrot, produced by BlackBook Toy Japan and sculpted by T9G, is Kozik’s tribute to Kubrick’s seminal film. The figure is 11.25 inches of japanese soft vinyl, and interests include milk plus, a bit of the old ultra-violence and Beethoven." (Facebook Event)

I am severely 'jealous' of Redhanded, being able to visit the DEVIL & ROBOTS: Go Nagai Tribute Show at Q-Pop, and the 'Rock'n'Roll Uamou Show' @ Toy Art Gallery - both of which opened on the same night!

Previews & Event Details for "Custom YHWH Show" @ Toy Art Gallery (May 11)

Scheduled for a launch May 11th @ Toy Art Gallery, is a "Custom YHWH Show" featuring a variety of artists working on the form. Here's a preview so far from folks' Instagrammage of WIPs, including the above, the featured below is Plaseebo's one of a kind "Oxymoron Carnivale" = a combination of vinyl and hand cast resin with feathers, standing 14" high, come signed by Bog Conge:

"YHWH is the unpronounceable name of god. My YHWH represents the indefinable nature of the divine and its unspeakable mystery, which can be represented by anything from a burning bush to a three eyed bunny totem. In creating my YHWH toy edition, I strove to elevate each and every individual figure from a mass produced piece of plastic to a magical object.

Truth be told, when YWWH from Mark Ryden came out in 2009 (released by Necessaries Toy Foundation), I was grasping at my senses trying to accept the form as an "art toy collectible", which then seemed to me more like an "art sculpture" (which by definition is likened to folks saying "whatever" artwork is "avant garde" because they simply could not categorize it ;p). Years on, I still have that trouble, unfortunately, but there are folks whose depiction and customs for it, might help me accept the piece more, perhaps? I don't think I've ever had the pleasure of seeing it in person too, actually … I feel sad for myself LOL

FIGHT FOR YOUR RIGHT! - A Custom Boxing Glove Showcase @ Toy Art Gallery (May 4)

Toy Art Gallery presents "Fight For Your Right", with this first annual custom boxing glove showcase launching Saturday May 4th, 2013 from 7pm-10pm. A showing in New York city will immediately follow on May 9th, 2013. "Fight For Your Right" Custom Boxing Glove Showcase at TAG is a one night event, and you can see more details via their Facebook page, including the full participating artists list. Previewed here are designs from Anthony Ausgang, DreS13, Sara Martin, Skwak and TOUMA (More turnarounds posted HERE).

PARTIAL PRESS: "Fight The City has partnered with talented artists from around the world to create unique one of a kind custom boxing gloves. Fight The City makes artist-driven gloves and gear to give fighters a choice of how to express themselves when they step into the ring. Taking this already crafted passion, and collaborating with the artists that inspire us only made sense. There will be showcasing a total of 40 gloves at this 1-night only events.

Toy Art Gallery will be exhibiting and selling 10 pairs of gloves exclusively, while the remaining gloves will be auctioned off at the New York city showing on May 9th on Fight The City's eBay page. A portion of all gloves proceeds benefit the Hoods to Woods Foundation. This foundation helps inner city kids get out to the wilderness to learn, grow, and become all they can be through outdoor activities such as snowboarding. This first of its kind event will be leading the way to Fight The City's first ever limited edition boxing gloves from the twisted imagination of artist Scarecrowoven, known for his Ritual 3D deck series by Creature Skateboarding."
